Each year we invite people of all backgrounds to join us at our Manoomin Camp. During the gathering and planting seasons (late August to early October) groups, families, and individuals join us to learn about the history of Manoomin in this area and about how to process Manoomin into food.
The day-long workshops begin at 10am. They start with a one-hour teaching about the cultural significance of Manoomin. Participants then go out onto the water in canoes (canoes, paddles, and safety kits provided) to gather or seed the Manoomin. We are out on the water for approximately one hour. Paddling distances can vary depending on the comfort and experience levels of the participants.
When we come back to shore there is a one-hour break for lunch (please bring your own food and water). We then come together again for the afternoon and move through the steps of processing Manoomin into food: roasting, dancing, and winnowing. Most groups finish at 3pm.
The cost per participant is $75 for the day. We ask for a 25% non-refundable deposit to hold your space as the tours do fill up each year. We also run a pay-what-you-can Community Day. This year Community Day is September 15.
Please dress for the weather as the tours run rain or shine. We will not go out on the water in thunderstorms. There is one bathroom on site.
